Library Going Green!
It's a new year and one of our resolutions is to cut back on the amount of plastic bags given out at the Circulation Desk. For the past ten years we have offered free plastic bags to carry home materials. Many of these bags are thrown out after one use and are not reused. They are also not "free" as there is a cost to the library and the environment when they are discarded and end up in a landfill or worse, litter our neighborhoods and waterways. The Friends of the Library offer several reusable library bags that will last for years and are available at a reasonable cost. You may want to bring your own plastic grocery bags, and we will provide a box to recycle some too. Thank you for your cooperation.

It's great for the library to be going green, but I heard that it's not easy. But I'm a believer!

What a waste of library resources.
I don't understand anonymous's comment of Jan 4th. "What a waste of library resources". What resourses are being wasted? Manpower? Money? Trees? Landfill?
If you check back, please explain. I think it's a great idea.
Going green is the way to go -- not sure why it took so long to make an obvious move. And, going green doesn't mean we all have to walk around talking about nature and wearing tie die shirts. Small things, like shutting off an extra light, making an effort to put paper in a recycle can instead of a waste basket, and carpooling for lunch can make a big difference.
what about going green with solar energy! with solar power you will have a cheaper electric bill , the power will never go out, you will have a 30% tax write off for the first year much more
Thank you for your comment regarding solar energy. This is just one of several topics that could be addressed at the next Library Community Forum on Wednesday, March 5 at 7pm in the Library Community Room. The Board of Trustees would like to hear from community members about the future of library services and facilities. Energy conservation is certainly an area to explore. All are welcome to attend.
How about the library stop wasting so much paper with those useless 'receipts' that print out for computer usage?
I think it's great! And I totally agree with one of the anonymous comments- LPL should stop wasting paper by printing out receipts. I never use mine.
Also, receipts by the computer card catalog are a huge waste- if the library wants to go greener, they can put scrap paper there - outdated flyers, etc. and golf pencils. This way paper is being 'recycled' and less electricity is being used.
