I'd like to know why nothing was mailed to the residents of the Longwood School District regarding this vote. If I didn't happen to pass by the library all the time I wouldn't have even known about it. So the 300 plus that voted for it I guess are employees and their families. Almost 7 million dollars for a library in an economy when people can't even buy food & pay their ever increasing property taxes??
Although you commented on the post regarding last year's budget vote of April 2008, I assume you were referring to this year's vote on April 14th, 2009. Nevertheless, the answer remains the same: the library publicizes the budget vote and trustee election in the February, March, and April newletters. The April newsletter contains the complete proposed budget information on page 7. Over 30,000 newsletters are printed and mailed to every household in the Longwood School District. In addition, we publish a legal notice about the budget three times in local newspapers. A sign about the upcoming vote was hung over the library entrance for two weeks beginning April 1. Information is readily available on the library webpage, and copies of the budget brochure are available at all service desks in the library.
We're trying something new here at the Longwood Public Library, or LPL, as we refer to it. We'd like to use this blog to tell you what's new at LPL, and give you an opportunity to tell us what's on your mind too. If you wish to add a comment, simply click on the word "comments" beneath the passage and post your reply. Your comment will appear after the moderator reviews it. Thanks for visiting us!
